Just playin´ the game

The Game has just released his new album Jesus piece and it´s really a quite nice album. It feels like there´s always been a bit of a debate if the Game is a good rapper or if he´s just a quite phony guy who´s always namedropping other rappers too much, and in my eyes both are true. I´ve listened quite a lot to all of his albums and think they all hold a relatively high standard - especially LAX and Doctor´s Advocate - but since he´s often written off as a phony I thought I´d remind you all of some of the bangers from his discography. Fun fact: I´ve met the Game and shook his hand once on the streets of Amsterdam. #almostfamous Jesus peice (2012) - "Ali Bomaye" The R.E.D. Album (2011) - "Martians vs. Goblins" LAX (2008) - "Angel" Doctor´s Advocate (2006) - "Da shit" The Documentary (2005) - "Put it on the game"

That Friday feeling

You all know what I mean, TGIF and all that Jazz. Well, for me the quintessential friday "lounge" would be with the other musciologists like in the good 'ole S. Viktoria 46A days.. A couple of cold ones (or Fidel Castro's in the summer) and just soft tunes to get you in the groove. Like these babies right here. Over-n-out / MLK

A little something for the weekend..

Howdy ho ! Believe it or not, MLK is back. No excuses for being away - just poor form. But let's look forward now. For once getting into a proper Friday feeling, working with the V700's on all day today. Feed Me & Crystal Fighters to get us out of the blocks: Sorry that it's a poor Zane Lowe rip, still get's my head bobbling. Next out we've got a little Afro-gem (hat-tip goes to AWSM). Henrik Schwartz on the remix, got a bit of a Madan-vibe. Chorus is just dynamite! And finally, the man I'm off to see tonight : Parov Stelar. Don't know how I've missed out, but he's one swinging MF! Keep it real ! / MLK

Tribute to summertime

The fall is here and the rain pouring down. What better way is it then but to pay a tribute to the summer!

Let's have some Rozay

Rick Ross is back with a new album - "God forgives, I don't". Except for apparently having a good memory, Ricky Rozay has a great ear for picking beats and he often raps with a nice feel to it. This might not be his best album (I give it 3 Maybachs out of 5 possible, I hold "Teflon Don" as his best) but it still got some good tracks on it and here's some of them:

Friday rewind

Vacation times so been kinda' quiet here for a while (July was a new low mark). But now I'm back at work and it's time to find my way back here. Raekwon is one of my favorite rappers, of course because he was a part of Wu Tang, but as much for his two masterpiece-albums Only built for cuban linx I & II. "Heaven and hell" is from the first of the two, together with partner in crime Ghostface.

Summer of the Rub

Long time Musicology favorites The Rub have put together a summer mix for Fools goold, this time focusing on 1967-73 but more rock than hip-hop this time. Click play and see the playlist.

While waiting for Four Tet

Smalltalk is the first release from Ultraista. A group of three including Nigel Godrich (who have been a producer for Radiohead among others), Laura Bettison and Jorey Waronker. There is a Four Tet remix of this song that is off the top, heard it on BBC but I couldn’t find it anywhere. So for now here’s the original, which is also really good.

Inspector Norse

The video for Inspector Norse from one of Norway's finest; Todd Terje. Would be nice to hear this tune later on tonight, sounding off into the summer night setting the midsummer mood, but I'm doubtful it's on the playlist…

Drunk..

Ok, I'm somewhat drunk (or who am I kiddin' - I'm pretty fkn plastered) and came to think about this track when I got home from the wild nightlife this night had to offer. UGK 4 life!

Gee Up (Erol Alkan’s Extended Rework)

A fantastic new rework from mr Erol Alkan. This is unfortunately only a preview but I had to post it anyway. I'm for sure going to grab a copy of that 12".

Friday rewind

On my way to Stockholm to visit Bob and Stretch (with MLK and BR) and as I have loads of time on the airport due to a strike-threat I might as well continue my friday rewind-series: here's Ludacris with heavy Eyebrows down from his third album, "Chicken-n-Beer".

Some new

Bob isn't finding anything new but I ran in to these two tracks and think they're quite good.

Wednesday, 30 May 2012

Nothing new

Been looking for some new music today, didn't find anything exciting. So I'm posting two older ones. First off, a wonderful re-edit from Kon, this time on a more famous tune:

The second one is just a classic:

Happy birthday Norway

I'm living in Oslo, and yesterday the norwegians celebrated their constitution day. It's really a quite fun day where everybody - young and old - is out in the streets celebrating, and there's a lot of partying going on all across town. If you've never been in Oslo on the 17th of May I can really recommend you going sometime cus' it's good fun. As Norway had their "birthday" I got to think about what norwegian music I've been listening to throughout the years. And as I'm not counting the billion times it seemes I've heard Aha's "Take on me" in various settings (most commonly involving alcohol), it's really not that much... Actually, there's really only one band that comes to mind - but on the other hand, quality before quantity and what a band they were: Turbonegro. So without further ado, here's two of my favorite Turbonegro songs: Age of pamparius (two things about this track: 1) gotta love the intro heavily influenced by AC/DC's "For those about to rock" 2) The pizzeria they're singing about - Pamparius - is located right by my job) and Blow me like the wind.

Friday rewind

Deception is a nice track that I first heard in a skateboard movie ages ago. I haven't really listened to any other Blackalicious songs except for this one, and I don't know anything about the group so just let's go ahead to the song.

Tuesday, 15 May 2012

Gimme some bass!

Heard this one last week (late I know Bob!) and the massive bass made me think of Escape Velocity immediately. Only six times shorter. The video is one for the books.

Dream Baby Dream

YES!!! This is so beautiful! Heard this song while on the metro this morning, and it made my day. First I heard the original (or original Suicide cover) by Neneh Cherry and the Thing. And then a little bit later Four Tet's remix of their version. Both versions are fucking brilliant, it's like having a .... and take a .... at the same time, full release!

So first Neneh Cherry and the Thing - Dream Baby Dream...

... and the Four Tet remix.

SpaceGhostPurrp

I really like the beat and the flow from this 20 yo MC and producer from Florida, SpaceGhostPurrp. The song God of Black from the mixtape with the same name.

All for Love

Rob'n'Raz is back, or at least Raz, with a great 90ies sounding house song. Apparently there is also an album in the works...

Friday rewind

Time for one of the most recognized and appreciated rappers ever (and a personal favorite) to enter the Friday Rewind hall of fame - Nas. Take it in blood is from his second album "It was written" and has a suggestive and heavy beat, all topped with the phenomenal hook from Kool Keith's Ease back echoing from speaker to speaker. Simply great.

Fast life

Stoner-rapper Curren$y is preparing the release of his new album "The Stoned Immaculate" that will hit stores 5. June, and he just released this track featured by westcoast O.G. Daz. Pretty soft tune. And I gotta say it's nice to see Stretch and MLK mixing it up here again!

Thursday, 10 May 2012

I CAN hear the music

So with Stretch breathing down my neck to post as he's ressurected and back to semi-frequent posting I can't take this bad conscience any more. So here it goes, some swedish punk-ish rock from Norrland (what's the odds for that ?) Props go to dj awsm who brought them on to the radar and since then they've been stuck on repeat. Love the hook and the female background vocals just make this very short and sweet. Enjoy

Just a great sundrenched house tune, the remix from mr Carl Craig.

More M83

I made a post about M83 a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been listening to him even more. I really like the feel and big sound in his music - there's something epic about it that kinda reminds me of the sound Justice L.E.A.U.G.E. often have in their beats (nothing else similar though). Here's two tracks from M83's two last albums, one that comes with a really nice video ("We own the sky")

Impossible to resist

I just have to post this absolute fabulous track with Action. The strings and horns are the funkiest I've heard in a long time. From his 2010 mixtape Bon appetit.....Bitch!!!!!

Mickey Mau5

Moving into the other guys territory a bit on this one, but after hearing one of his songs in a snowboard movie I've been listening a bit to Deadmau5 lately, and earlier today I found this heavy new (?) track on youtube: ... and here's the fantastic track that got me listening in the first place:

The holy trinity?

As usual I'm not the fastest kid round the block, but this one I just have to post. Just recently I started listening more to Jeezy and I really like his flow. Here he's got two pretty decent wingmen aswell.

"I said I see some ladies in here tonight I might marry..."

That'll be my approach from now on...

There's another day after tomorrow

My all time favourite Swedish act are calling it quits. Sad but true. I've always loved how it takes about five seconds to recognize a new TSOOL track as just a TSOOL track. A truly unique sound. And ever since a magic concert on an island on the swedish leftcoast I've been blown away by that, their groovy, funky sound. I could ramble on forever about Fredrik Sandstens drum fills on "Gran Canaria", Mattias Bärjeds Union Jack costume and how a thin (!) Ebbot looked like a true hipster in the eighties but I'll leave you with this.

Poodles, earmuffs ands nice shades.

This video is just sheer brilliance. Nothing else.

This year TSOOL performed as a half time-act in Melodifestivalen, with a cover of Dilbas "Try Again" from last years competition. The original is hideous, but the Soundtrackification made wonders...

And to round up, as an ending to this post, the first single from the new album Throw it to the Universe.

Det regnar och brinner

Bob Hund with a new video. Not the usual Bob Hund sound, but still nice.

Thursday, 12 April 2012

Still hoping... (no offence Dr.)...

... for Jay Electronica's "Act II: The Patents of Nobility (The Turn)" to be released. No date yet, but here's the full version of Dear Moleskine. Produced by Just Blaze.

Still hoping...

...for Dr. Dre's Detox to be released one day. I've started to strongly doubt that (or worse - that it will be a disappointment) but on this great track from Kendrick Lamar we at least get a taste of the doctor.

More drama on the way

Apparently DJ Drama is making a new "official" album called "Quality street music" and if I've understood it correctly this track will be on that album. "We in this bitch" might not be that brilliant (it's OK though) but mr. Drama has put together some good mixtapes in the past (like "Gangsta grillz: the album", "There is no competition" with Fabolous and "Cocain Konvicts" with French Montana to mention a few) so let's keep our hopes up!

Building momentum

As I really like having this blog I've had a guilty conscience over my low posting-frequency the last couple of months (it has been a blessing that Bob have kept posting regularly). I promise I'll be better from now and to build some momentum I thought I'll make a post with things I've been listening to lately. Nothing really new or anything, but good.

The Left feat. Invincible - Statistics

Drake feat. the Weekend - Crew Love

Three 6 Mafia feat. French Montana - Money, Weed, Blow

Pigs DO fly

Well, It's like waking out of a coma I guess.
Don't know why I haven't posted - but that's life.
As in finance, trends are made to be broken, so here we go again.

This dreamy Future Island tune really caught my eye. The horn-like catch just drives me nuts (in a good way).
Video is just gravy.

Been listening to STS - The Illustrious for a couple of days now, I can recommend it; it's a nice album.

Friday rewind

Back again with another classic. This time an old favourite of mine, Twista. His toughtwisting rap can be both great and a bit annoying, but he's definitively made some true bangers. Holding down the game from 2005 "The day after" is one of those, with a great chorus.

Tuesday, 10 January 2012

wen uuu

New materaial from Shlohmo is always appreciated.
