The Wu-saga continues

As Ghost, Raekwon and Meth are on the verge of releasing their awaited album Wu-massacre (March 30th), I felt it was time to make a tribute to one of the groups that really got me in to rap (Gangstarr being the other) - Wu-tang Clan. The three mentioned members has been quite active lately, and besides releasing a few small movietrailers for the oncoming album, both Rae and Ghostface each dropped an album last year. Here is Our Dreams from Wu-massacre.

I guess few of you has missed Raekwons Only built for cuban linx pt. 2, but if you did it was definently one of 2009's best albums.

Ghostface's Ghostdini: The Wizard of Poetry in Emerald City wasn't quite as good (instead, check out 2006's Fishscale and More Fish, not to say classic Ironman from 1996), but it still contained bangers like Do Over.

Even though Rza isn't what he used to be, in the middle of the 90's he definentely was one of the best producers (if not the best) in the game, and I still rank C.R.E.A.M as one of the five best rap songs ever made. Here's a couple of other classics.

From a bit forgotten and quite good Iron Flag (2001).

Wicked beat that reminds me of Zelda for Super NES.

I'm ending this monster post with Wu's first single.

Peace!

The snowman is back

Just as spring is coming around Young Jeezy (or as nowadays, just Jeezy since he apparently has outgrown the young-part..) is back with a quite good track, Bag Music. A while ago he also settled his beef with old nemisis and fellow A-town rapper Gucci Mane - a productive start of the new year in other words.

Apparently it "runs" in the family...

Hipster

TORO Y MOI is another one of those Graphic Designers making hipster music, but I can’t help it, I’m a sucker for it.

Odessa

Caribou’s new album, Swim, is released in April with Odessa as one of the tracks. Below is an older track remixed by Four Tet, called Melody Day, with vocals from Luke LaLonde, Adem & One Little Plane.

QUIZ - What Year?

This was the year when Skynet would launch a catastrophic massive nuclear attack on mankind, Steve Jobs returned to Apple, Che Guevara was buried in Cuba, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao opened to the public, Grand Theft Auto was released on PC, and except from that Biggie Smalls was shot, this was the best year of all times when it comes to Hip Hop. Download this MCMXCVII-mix from The Rub, two and a half hours of great music. If you want the track list and 19 more mixes from 1979-1999 click here!

Double trouble

Been a couple of days since I posted something, so I'll do two posts in one this time.

First out is a guy I discovered last year, French Montana. He's not the best rapper, and his lyrics are mainly focused on coke, guns and hoes (not that innovative), but some how I still like what he's doing. It's kinda like Real Madrid-player Raul - he's not really good at anything, but OK on everything and therefor he has managed to score a looot of goals (for the worst club possible...). On this song, French is joined by Cassidy, who always has that thieves-theme-sound goin'.

My other recommendation is from producer duo Beatnick & K-Salaam who dropped a great album earlier this year. Where the streets have no name is full of great tracks featuring rappers like Bun B, Talib Kweli, Buckshot and here Young Buck and Lil' Wayne. You outta listen to it man!

Stick to my side

Stick to my side is a great track from Pantha du Prince new album Black Noise with vocals from Panda Bear (Noah Lennox from Animal Collective). The original is good (check out the video) and the remix (get it here) by Four Tet is not bad either.

1517

The Whitest Boy Alive from Berlin. Why do I think of Mort Goldman from Family Guy? Anyway, this video was a tip from a small but good-looking guy who also happens to owe 20 SEK to Sankt Göran.

Chi-town represent

Even though the Bulls are struggeling at the moment, Chicago natives (and others..) can still enjoy themselves through Kidz In The Hall's new album, Land of Make Believe, that just landed in stores. I havn't had time to listen to it yet, but their last album, In the Crowd from 2008, was quite good and contained bangers like Middle of the Map pt.1 and pt.2, and Drivin' down the block, so this has all the potential of being a good album.

Control freak

Control Freak was the first thing I heard from Tash, and he's really making my time worth. Here's two songs - both good but only one with a corny video (still nice).

Nightcall

Mr Testarossa is back, Kavisnky will drop his Nightcall EP this spring. The title song is quite mellow but sounding a lot like Kavinsky and with great vocals by Lovefoxxx from CSS. He had some help co-producing this track as well, from a certain someone called Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, so no wonder it sounds good. One remix that stands out is from his fellow Frenchman, Breakbot. He is giving it a traditional Breakbot twist with a bit more funk and nu-disco, here. While you’re at it, listen to Breakbot’s funky Valentine mix that he did for Dazed Digital a couple of weeks back.

2010's best album?

I expect nothing but great from Outkast member Big Boi's solo debut, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty (best name of 2010?) that is supposed to come later this year. There has been some leaks from the album, and a few of the songs already got videos like the one below featuring George Clinton. Big Boi is killing this track, and it's really getting me excited for the rest of the album.

Difficult but brilliant

It's time for a bit more difficult but still, brilliant music. Flying Lotus' third album Cosmogramma will be released in May, Computer Face // Pure Being is one of the tracks. Below is his remix of Shadows of Tomorrow by Madvillain, a great song and a great remix.

B.o.B

There has been some buzz around newcomer B.o.B since he dropped his May 25th mixtape (refering to when his debut album is coming out). I think this is really good, and it has given me high expectations for May 25th.

Download the mixtape here.

A Must See

I just had to post this video from the band OK Go for their song This Too Shall Pass. Enjoy!

Man on the moon

New good song from Kid Cudi ft. Snoop Dogg. The song might be on his upcoming album, Cudder: The Revolution of evolution.

Day in, day out

To move away a bit from the handsome Mr Eminem but continue on the documentary track. I watched one about Joy Division on SVT-play last night, excellent music and quite good.

Wayne's world?

While 2008 definently was Wayne's world, 2010 is a different a story. Rebirth dropped a couple of weeks ago containing a lot of rock influences, and it didn't make anyone happy. Many rappers seems to carry a dream of becoming rock stars, almost always changing their music to the worst, Wayne no exeption. This song with Eminem is quite good though, and it just got a video.

I watched a documentary about Lil' Wayne last week, The Carter Documentary, and he is really a strange dude - always touring, always recording, and always drinkin' that purple. Tough life, don't think he'll make it to 100.

Telefonplan

I will be back at Klubb Democrazy at Landet, Stockholm tonight, playing funky hipster electro, this time without the support from DJ High School. One song you might hear if you are stopping by is Matthew Dears remix of VCR by the XX. See you when you get there.

Westside connection

Ya Boy from the Bay Area carries on the West Coast tradition of gangsta rap in the same way the Game has done since he entered the scene a couple of years ago. I know many think these two don't bring anything new to rap (specially Game, who only seems to rap about other rappers), but does that really matters when the past sounded like this?

Denmark

Pia Kjaersgaard, Christian II and Aqua, not the brightest and funniest bunch. But now Efterklang is back with a great album called Magic Chairs, so my love for Denmark is still there. Below is an amazing video for the song Modern Drift by Kristian Leth, get the song for free here. At the 10th of April they'll visit Stockholm and Strand, I'll be there.

Time for some rock'n'roll

I heard this song in a movie I was watching the other day and thought it was kinda good. Besides, it's my first non-rap post and it's always good to mix things up a bit (although I doubt it will happen that often on my behalf, Bob is better at that). Don't know anything bout' the band The Chesterfield Kings other than they have that dirty, old school rock'n'roll sound.

Back in balance..

Since Bob posted something sweet, I'll turn the blog back in balance with A.B.N and their rock hard record 3-16's from their 2008 album It is what it is.

And it's just the blues

Perhaps too sweet but what the hell, it's Sunday night. Get it here.
